An excellent few weeks for Casual in the Middle East. Let us explain.

We’re very proud to announce that the video we made for Dar Al-Hekma (a genuinely pioneering university, Saudi Arabia’s first all female one) was entered into the QS creative competition in Abu Dhabi where it picked up a Gold Award. The awards were open to educational institutions throughout Asia, the Middle East and Australia and is run by QS, an organisation that ranks the world’s top universities – it is  the most widely read university comparison of its kind in the education sector.

Aside from the award, we’re delighted this seems to be having the reach intended, with over 1,000 views per day through the first two weeks of its launch.

This was our first project in Saudi Arabia, and it was a great experience for the team.

Highlights included shooting the opening shots in Nassief House, not drinking for 7 days, smoking a shisha each, witnessing the unique Jeddah nightlife, and meeting some really inspirational students and teachers from the University.

Also in Abu Dhabi last week were a few Casuallers filming our next project for TAQA.

This trip took in some of the beautiful sites and scenery in Kurdistan too.  Now in post, it will be our first film in Kurdish. Watch this space for stories of Arabian horses in the desert and a technical report on shooting Canon RAW on the C500.

Thanks to both Samina and her team on picking up this prestigious and well deserved award and to TAQA for the opportunity.
