People of all ages around the world view petrochemical manufacture extremely negatively. The reality is that modern life would not be possible without the many roles petrochemicals play around us.

UNESCO needed an official film for their International Year of Chemistry 2011 illustrating the value of petrochemicals and plastics in the everyday life of young people globally. More specifically they wanted the film to show that petrochemicals give people around the world access to the most basic human needs – water, energy, food, hygiene, sustainable housing, transport, communication and education.

We felt the best way to interpret such a broad brief was to take the viewer on a journey of discovery all over the world. We wanted to avoid the traditional dry science video by creating a visually engaging film with a narrative that drew together the potentially disparate scenes. We also opted for the use of motion graphic overlays to underline the benefits of plastics in each scene.
