Macmillan wanted an animation which illustrated the wide range of ways people can get involved in their Online Community.Traditionally the membership was limited to those suffering with cancer and their immediate relations. This animation was designed to show that the Community “provides tools and support to fundraisers, volunteers, campaigners, healthcare workers and Macmillan staff”.

The film sits on the Online Community homepage and encourages people who may have traditionally passed over to get involved. It does this through answering some of the questions they may have about the use and role of the site.

We decided on a stop motion animation of a graffiti artist painting a carefully planned mural on a white wall. The order in which the items were painted was controlled allowing us to fit the timing of the painting to the voiceover in post production.

The addition of music and sound design greatly lifted the piece really pulling the production and ‘Mike’s Story’ together.

Since starting the switchover from text based content to video content Macmillan has seen a 30% increase in traffic to all support pages and an additional 50% increase in time spent on these pages.

A lot of positive feedback regarding the video content has been received from users of the Macmillan website.

Macmillan have a strong relationship with Casual Films and reguarly commission new projects for a variety of purposes.
